Kristen Heckert Named Horizon League Cross Country Athlete of the Week

Kristen Heckert of the women's cross country team was named the Horizon League's cross country runner of the week for the first week of the season, the league announced Tuesday.

Heckert, a Sugar Grove, Ill. native, earned the honor after taking top honors in the women's race at the UIC Home Opener Saturday. She covered the two-mile course at Horsetail Lake in Palos Hills, Ill. in a time of 11:18.8 to top the 29-runner field.

UIC returns to action Saturday at the Titan Invitational in Detroit at 10 a.m. The course used this weekend will also be the site of the 2009 Horizon League Cross Country Championships Oct. 31.
