Thousands of Illinois workers flunk ethics test for rushing

The governor's inspector general flunked thousands of state employees on an annual ethics exam because they rushed. Letters sent to 5,000 or more state employees rescinded "certificates of completion'' on the ethics review because they didn't spend the minimum amount of time on the computerized program.

Starbucks workers' union expands to Chicago

A union claiming to represent Starbucks Corp. workers at a handful of coffeehouses said Wednesday that employees of a Chicago store have declared their membership, becoming the first outside New York City to do so. The baristas at the Logan Square Starbucks store joined the IWW Starbucks Workers Union Tuesday night, the union said.

FBI, Education Dept. review student records in terrorism probe

Searching for terrorists, the FBI and the Education Department's investigative arm have secretly vetted people applying for college aid, documents show. The goal of "Project Strike Back'' was to determine if terrorism suspects, through identity theft or other means, illegally obtained college aid to finance their operations.
