Tired of huge family style Greek restaurants on Halsted Street? You know the type—as big as Blockbuster, serving busloads of customers with standard Greek fare. Instead there is Artopolis, an exciting new dining experience on Halsted. In Greek, "Arto" means bread and "polis" means a gathering place, like the ancient agora in Athens. This shop is a perfect gathering place for students, professionals and diners looking for a change of pace on Halsted.

Artopolis is a low profile establishment that reminds us of the original café/food store/bakery shops that lined Halsted Street so many decades ago. Inside Artopolis, the front dining area faces Halsted Street with two tiers of dining in a relaxed atmosphere. Need something light to eat? Try an "Artopita" made with flaky dough wrapped around some rare ingredients like Portabella mushrooms and Emmenthal cheese. There are salads of all kinds and wood-fired pizza. For the hearty appetite, try the Roasted Lamb or Gourmet Lasagna. Before or after your meal, enjoy a drink and conversation in the bar area.

Also don't forget to visit the market place in the rear of the shop. You can buy imported wines, olive oil, honey, and olives plus a few Greekcrafts. You won't escape without a stop at the bakery counter for Chocolate Silk Mousse or Baklava. Artopolis bakes their own breads and the aroma, like the restaurant, is a great temptation.
