Media Credit: Michael RadziewiczThe hottest item for students on the University of Illinois at Chicago campus is the iPod. The new iPods are lighter and have more hard drive capacity.
Advertisements for the iPod are sweeping the nation-on the side of buses, in subway's and on television.
However, the biggest advertisement of all, are the people walking around using Apple's revolutionary MP3 player.
The iPod is not like any other MP3 player on the market. It has a massive amount of space, allowing users to hold over 10,000 songs.
The iPod has different amounts of hard disk space, ranging from 10GB to 40GB, currently the maximum amount of space available.
Currently, the iPod is smaller than previous models. The new iPod is just 0.62 inches thick and weighs approximately 5.6 ounces, about the weight of two CD's. It also has a long battery life, that can last much longer than many other MP3 players.
The iPod is prominent on the University of Illinois at Chicago's campus and is available at the UIC bookstore. The price for 10GB iPod is about $300.00. However, it costs less if you purchase it with an Apple computer.
There are four basic functions, and a menu from which a person can find the music or book they are looking for. They can search through a list of hundreds of songs in just seconds.
Also, the iPod has an impeccable sound system, having the highest sound quality from input to output.
"It's simple to use and its sound quality puts it above and beyond any other MP3 player on the market," Alex Bennett, freshman at UIC, said.
The iPod doesn't just play music. Users can download books, import photos, play games, record voices and much more.
The iPod may be used on several different kinds of computers.
"The great thing about my iPod is that I can use it with any type of computer, because it is both Mac and PC compatible," Haralambos Alvertos, freshman at UIC, said.
With less than two percent of the population use Mac's, iPod's compatibility with Mac and PC make it accessible to everyone
Even though the price is expensive for some college students, many say it is well worth the money.
