Students becomes book hunters in the beginning of semesters, realizing that there are many options to find cheaper books.

Textbook hunting doesn't always have to be such a burden. There are so many different outlets students can use to find their books. The closest to campus and for many students, the most convenient is our own UIC bookstore, which is located in the upper and lower levels of SCE. The UIC Bookstore provides students with school supplies, clothing, gifts, and most importantly, over 2,000 titles of books in stock.

Even though the bookstore is a convenient and popular option for many students, there are other options such as Chicago Textbook, which is an independent off campus bookstore located at 1076 W. Taylor St.

Manager at Chicago Textbook, Trish Baraglia, stated the advantages of the store.

"Students should keep in mind that they have other options in buying books. College students don't have a lot of money in the first place. So, if they need cheap books we have about 2,400 titles for them to choose from."

Chicago Textbook also provides a book van that drives to UIC campus during the first and last weeks of each semester and buys/sells books from students.

If you want to compare prices from the comfort of your home you can check out all the different websites online, such as www.half.com or www.amazon.com. The prices can range online quite a bit however. Another alternative would be shopping for an earlier edition, usually professors comply but run it by them just to make sure. The page numbers may be off but all the important information still coincides with the newer editions.

Another feature the UIC bookstore offers is its online services, which can be accessed at www.uicbookstore.org. At the website students can browse for book selections online. The website allows students to choose their specific course title and will inform them of the title of the book and the current selling price of the book.

Tuition is already a huge expense for many students, buying books doesn't have to be also. Therefore, before you decide to pay up, do some research and compare prices. You might just save more than a penny.
