The UIC Department of Family Medicine proudly opened its doors to a new clinic in University Village last month. Located at 722 West Maxwell St., Suite 235, the new Family Medicine Center offers east campus students the convenience of the west side's medical services at a closer location.

The center offers everything from physical exams to preventative healthcare, gynecological care, testing for sexually transmitted diseases, immunizations and even basic lab tests for cholesterol, blood count and glucose levels. In addition, the UIC Village Pharmacy is located just down the hall from the clinic, providing patients with convenient access to their medications.

Operating by appointment only, the Center expects to provide patients with new appointments, follow-ups, physicals and annual gynecological exams within 24 to 48 hours. Due to vacations, conferences, and other commitments, the Center may not necessarily be able to schedule a patient to see their provider of choice within two days, but a clinician will always be available.

The Outpatient Care Center on the west campus will continue to see patients, but only with a fraction of the original physicians. Doctors Patrick Tranmer, M.D., MPH, Maria Albright, M.D., Marisela Dominguez, M.D., Jeffrey Rubin, M.D., Mark Potter, M.D., Nandini Khatkhate, M.D., Sam Grief, M.D., and Nipa Shah, M.D. will rotate through the west side. Also, nurse practicioners Nancy Gazdiak, FNP, Sandra Pfantz, FNP, PhDNP, and Christine Bobek, FNP will still be available.

The remainder of the clinicians, along with all residents and medical students, will be working out of the University Village clinic.

All radiology and most specialty services are still located on the west campus at the UIC Medical Center on 1740 W. Taylor St. and the Family Medicine's Outpatient Care Center on 1801 W. Taylor St.

To make an appointment at either location, please call 312-996-2901. Operators are available to assist patients in determining which facility is most appropriate.

As the University Village clinic settles in, students can expect more collaboration between the Family Medicine Center and the Wellness Center to provide group events and classes on important health issues such as stress, sexually transmitted diseases, alcohol and nutrition.
