While some students exercise in SRF's cardio room, many do not know free classes like cardio kickboxing and aqua fitness are available for them on scheduled dates.

With the winter approaching we're all bound to pack on a few pounds, whether we want to or not. Some of us use pilates or yoga tapes, work out balls and other such equipment in our own home, but there are other alternatives. If you haven't visited the new SRF yet, it's about time you do. Besides some of the favorites, such as the rock climbing wall, the lazy river and the sauna, the center has a wide variety of classes suited for anyone's level of fitness.

Besides the instructional classes, such as Belly Dance, Finding Peace (meditation), and Tai Chi, and the group fitness classes, such as, Pilates Reformer, Vinyasa Yoga, and Aqua Pilates, the center also offers free UIC Group Fitness classes.

Every week, cardio, conditioning, aqua fitness, step training and dance fitness are offered to you at many different times throughout the day, free of charge. Take advantage of this opportunity, shed a few pounds, let out some aggression, or just stay up to par as you are.

Classes are offered through the end of the semester and all classes are held in the Multi-Purpose room in the Student Recreation Facility at 750 S. Halsted St. unless otherwise noted.

For conditioning classes, there are Definitions, Bikini Bootcamp, Ab Lab, and Rear Attitudes.

Just beginning to weight train and tone? Take the Definition class to tone your lower body and sculpt your upper body, which is a complete muscle conditioning class. This class is offered Tuesday and Wednesday 4:15p.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday 12 p.m. to 12:50 p.m.

Another class is Bikini Bootcamp, a non-traditional circuit workout that combines athletic drills, strength training, plyometrics, and no choreography, to increase your fitness level and get that body ready for spring break. Classes are held Wednesdays from 6:15 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Ab Lab is a 30-minute class that focuses solely on the abdominal muscles. Class is held Monday 6:15 to 6:45 p.m., Tuesday 1 to 1:30 p.m. and at the Sport and Fitness Center, 828 Wolcott St., on Thursday 6:30 to 7 p.m. in the Fit Room 3.
