P!vot EcoSmart Fashion (1101 West Fulton Market) displays a variety of clothing and products that are all friendly to the environment.

If you have made the resolution to go green this year or are looking for new ways to help the environment, the clothing boutique P!vot (pivot) Eco-Smart Fashion is the place to get your new year's digs. The West Loop clothing boutique opened in September and the owner, Jessa Brinkmeyer, is excited about the attention and growth that the shop is getting.

The boutique houses over 40 designers from across the country and internationally, including several Chicago designers such as Lara Miller and Noon Solar, who have created new bags out of eco-friendly materials. Brinkmeyer expressed her need for there to be a better way to help the environment without sacrificing style, so the idea of an eco-smart clothing boutique was born and is the first of its kind in Chicago.

What is considered eco-smart? High quality fashion that has low impact on the environment which creates a necessary balance for a society that calls us to be more environment-conscious.

The kind of materials used to make the clothing are organic, recycled, biodegradable and more. One would never imagine to wear bamboo, often used in décor, yet it is a nice breathable material that feels silky smooth. The clothes made of organic cotton are pesticide-free, as well as other materials from soy to paper wool to Mongolian cashmere.

"People are so amazed by the organic clothing," states Brinkmeyer, who right now is selling mostly women's clothing. The boutique sells women's clothes, accessories and comforts for the home. Pivot is looking to expand for more men's clothing and even shoes for the upcoming spring season.

P!vot boutique has a unique selection of clothes in today's latest trends. The best sellers thus far have been the cashmere sweaters by ORGANIC and the tailored bamboo hoodies. The average price range of clothing at P!vot is anywhere from $50 to $150. The clothes in the store are not only green, but the store itself is filled with custom furniture that was made from recycled materials, uses energy-efficient and pollution-reducing compact fluorescent light bulbs and reused/recycled bags; in fact they encourage you to bring your own bag while shopping.

You can find a new eco-smart outfit at P!vot boutique's location at 1101 West Fulton Market. For more information, visit the boutique's site at pivotboutique.com.
