The University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry has received a donation of $250,000 from Delta Dental of Illinois to help build a new pediatric clinic to train predoctoral dental students. The donation for UIC's college of Dentistry was raised as part of the University of Illinois Brilliant Futures campaign.
Delta Dental of Illinois is a not-for-profit dental service organization that directs and funds dental benefit plans and donations for employers in Illinois. Delta Dental has been offering dental benefit programs to Illinois employers since 1967. They are passionate about oral health and committed to improving the oral health of the communities they serve.
"For 40 years, we have been helping to advance access to oral health education for the people of Illinois. We consider a grant to the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry a perfect fit with our mission. Our donation will help establish good oral health that could last a lifetime for the children treated at the clinic and make oral health more accessible for underserved individuals," said Dr. Robert Dennison, chief executive officer and president of Delta Dental of Illinois.
The current facility, located in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry in the College of Dentistry, is very dated and does not meet the design, equipment and technology needs to provide proper oral health treatment for young children.
The Delta Dental of Illinois Pediatric Dentistry Clinic, the buildings' anticipated name, will begin and end construction in the summer of 2008. The new clinic will be a 2,500-square-foot, 14-chair clinic featuring new sedation and operating areas with new dental chairs, cabinetry, piped-in nitrous oxide, educational tools and state-of-the-art digital radiography. This clinic will also meet the requirements of the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act making accessible for the special needs populations.
"We feel this gift will provide faculty, students, and patients with a state-of-the-art facility in which to deliver high quality dental care and oral health education," said Dr. Dennison. "An essential part of our company's mission is to improve the oral health of the communities we serve."
