It is no surprise that students at UIC deeply felt the tragedy at NIU. The shooting hit very close to home: many members of the UIC community know people who attend NIU.
In response, a good number of UIC students showed up on Monday, Feb. 18 to sign condolence banners located in SCE, SCW and SRF.
Tara, a friend of the family of Northern victim Julianna Gehant, noted that it was an ironic twist of fate that she served her country in Iraq and then comes home to go to college and is killed because she was in class.
Elisa, a criminal justice student, said, "it felt more real than when I heard about the Virginia Tech shooting because I actually know some of the NIU students."
UIC students are showing their support for the NIU campus and keeping them in their thoughts and prayers.
