Sen. Durbin pushes for increased campus safety
Following the tragic events at NIU last Thursday, Sen. Dick Durbin spoke to Congress on the issue of campus safety, and mandatory emergency response plans for colleges across the nation. He is calling for a requirement by all colleges across the United States to draft these emergency plans and test them each year in order to begin building more safe campus environments. Durbin co-sponsored the safety measure plan with Sen. Barack Obama and presented it before a House-Senate conference committee. If put into effect, it would provide federal grants to colleges for the enhancement of campus security.
