Bomb threat at DePaul's Loop campus

Last Monday a bomb threat led to the evacuation of two buildings, as well as cancellation of evening classes, on the DePaul Loop campus. The threat was reported at the Lewis Center (25 E. Jackson) at 5:24 p.m., according to officials. The second building evacuated was O'Malley Place (23 E. Jackson). Both buildings resumed classes Tuesday morning following a thorough search by the Police Bomb and Arson Investigators which revealed the threat to be a false alarm.

Violence increases as weather warms up in the city

The weekend of April 18-20 saw 37 separate reports of shootings across the city of Chicago; seven shootings resulted in fatalities. Authorities noted that this heightened number of shootings in such a short time span is rare, but also indicated that increased violence often occurs when the temperatures begin rising outside - and especially within the summer months.

Speed cameras proposed for city streets

Chicago aldermen are pushing for legislature to catch speeding vehicles in the act on residential streets - an ordinance that was approved three years ago by the City Council, but never put fully into place. The ordinance called for the monitoring of residential streets - often where children are crossing near schools, parks, and private homes - by means of radar cameras that catch speeders whom have disobeyed cul-de-sacs, speed humps, and lower speed limits on those residential streets.
