Walk and Roll fundraiser coming to West Loop
The 36th annual American Cancer Society Walk and Roll fundraising event will be held in the West Loop on May 18. The event is known as the largest American Cancer Society fundraiser in the state of Illinois, and will feature a 5K walk, 10K skate, and 15K bike ride - all in the name of raising money for cancer research. Last year's Walk and Roll event raised over $1 million dollars for the first time in the event's history, and hopes to surpass that amount this year. Maxwell Street market plans to move its location
The historic Maxwell Street market, once housed on its namesake street, and then moved to Canal Street, will soon relocate once again, this time to Des Plaines, between Harrison and Roosevelt. According to the Chicago Journal, the move will take place sometime this summer, but is behind schedule and was supposed to happen sometime last September. The new location will feature several improvements to the Canal location, including 15% more booths, new landscaping and signage, and a specified eating area that will hopefully discourage littering and make for an easier post-market clean-up.
