On July 29th, UIC's Office of Sustainability sponsored the third annual Sustainable University Symposium. Vendors displayed eco-friendly, "green" products as universities across Illinois-and even one community college from Los Angeles, California-met at the UIC Forum to discuss current environmental issues, how they affect universities, and what steps colleges are taking to answer what Lieutenant-Governor Pat Quinn called "the green challenge that is right before us.

Renovation work on Lincoln Hall began earlier this summer, and is expected to be completed in summer 2009. Reflecting the sentiments expressed at last week's Sustainable University Symposium, Lincoln Hall is being almost completely renovated in such a way that it can qualify for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver status when it is completed.

On Tuesday, July 29, 2008, the House of Representatives passed a nonbinding resolution, led by Rep. Steven Cohen (D-Tenn), which serves as a formal apology for the government's participation in African American slavery and the establishment of Jim Crow Laws.
